Converts to a cause are often the most energetic and effective proponents of that cause. Theresa Hagelbarger, a business teacher at Villa Park High School and teacher sponsor of her school’s California Future Business Leaders of America chapter is such a person. Theresa attended a MoneyWiseTeen workshop in 2011 and has been a CCEE proponent ever since. Attending additional CCEE events such as the Teacher Guide Workshop, and working with additional materials such as Learning, Earning and Investing, Theresa has made it her mission to bring economic and financial literacy to her students and to students throughout her district.
Theresa has found ways to integrate personal finance into other content areas. She has applied successfully for funding to ensure that personal finance is part of the curriculum at her school, and that her students learn these very important life lessons. She helped us evaluate Learning, Earning, and Investing, and recruited other teachers to help with this project. Theresa helped with the first Financial Advisors Quiz Bowl; her students came in third place! Were all teachers as energetic, imaginative, and dedicated, we would not be discussing financial illiteracy. Theresa exemplifies the best in teaching. CCEE is grateful for her great work.
